Supporting learning in mathematics
A practical one day programme for Teaching Assistants and unqualified teachers in Foundation, KS1 or KS2 phases in English Speaking Schools.
Objectives:
• To explore a range of practical intervention strategies to promote the development of mathematics
• To identify the skills, knowledge and understanding required to engage learners effectively in practical mathematical activities
• To design and develop classroom resources to support learning in mathematics
The programme will focus on the following key areas:
• Primary National Strategy
• working with small groups of learners
• groundwork activities in mathematics
• practical learning activities in mathematics
• resources to support mathematics activities
The programme provides the opportunity for Teaching Assistants and unqualified teachers to improve and develop their skills to support learning in mathematics. The strategies and approaches explored will have real impact in the classroom for small groups of learners. Previous participants have found the programme practical, motivational and confidence – building.
The programme provides an ideal progression for Teaching Assistants who have completed Passport to Classroom Support. However, prior experience is not essential.
