Supporting learning in Literacy
A practical one day programme for Teaching Assistants and unqualified teachers in Foundation, KS1 or KS2 phases in English Speaking Schools.
Objectives:
• To explore a range of practical intervention strategies to promote the development of literacy skills
• To identify the skills, knowledge and understanding required to engage learners effectively in practical literacy activities
• To design and develop classroom resources to support learning in literacy
The programme will focus on the following key areas:
• Primary National Strategy
• early literacy support
• motivating readers
• phonics activities
• support for speaking and listening
• guided writing activities
The programme provides the opportunity for Teaching Assistants and unqualified teachers to improve and develop their skills to support learning in literacy. The strategies and approaches covered will have real impact in the classroom for small groups of learners. Previous participants have found the programme practical and exciting with lots of good ideas for the Foundation Stage/Primary classroom.
The programme provides an ideal progression for Teaching Assistants who have completed Passport to Classroom Support. However, prior experience is not essential.
