Kath Perrin

Following a successful, varied and very enjoyable teaching career, Kath left primary headship to take up one of the first Local Authority posts specifically created to establish training and development for teaching assistants. Within three years Kath was leading a team which provided a wide range of training and development opportunities and advice on qualifications and career pathway for all school support staff. Kath developed and lead the Higher Level Teaching Assistant Programme and has experience as a HLTA assessor. From 2005 she undertook the wider remit of School Workforce Development Adviser which involved working closely with the Training & Development Agency for schools and NW Local Authority colleagues on a wide range of workforce development initiatives involving both teachers and support staff. Kath passionately believes that there is no sustainable school improvement without continued professional development for all school staff. Having worked for two years as a multi-tasking part-time as a teaching assistant/lunchtime supervisor/office administrator before training to teach, Kath understands the support staff roles from the perspective of both the employer and employee.
